Obama Knows ‘Wassup’!

Posted October 26th, 2008 by lordy

Eight years ago, in 2000 «Wassup?» video advertising Budweiser beer, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes advertising festival. In those days, there were no large-scale video-hostings in the Internet, but the audience of the Wassup? clip could be compared with today’s most popular videos on YouTube. Видео передавалось по электронной почте и файлообменным сетям, и по сей день является самым успешным примером вирусного маркетинга. Video was transmitted via e-mail and file-sharing networks, and is still the most successful example of on-line marketing. Later, Wassup? also spawned a whole wave of parodies.

And now, after 8 years of the Republicans in the White House, the video characters are back and ask the eternal question: «Wassup?» In response, another character says: «Change. That’s wassup.» We’ll remind that the main slogan of the U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama campaign is the phrase «Change We Can Believe In».

In this video creators of the remake from the Obama’s electoral headquarters criticize all the current problematic issues – from Iraq to health problems and of course the financial crisis.

Inside, you can see the original videos «Budweiser. True.»  from 2000. It was created by DDB Chicago for Bud Lights.

Rubik’s Cube and Its Variants

Posted October 26th, 2008 by lordy

«Rubik’s Cube» (originally known as «Magic cube», hung. Bűvös kocka) – mechanical puzzle, invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erne Rubik.

This jigsaw is a plastic cube, made up of 26 smaller cubes that can rotate around the axes, invisible from the outside. Each of the nine squares on each side of the cube is painted in one of six colors and is usually located in the following pairs opposite each other: white-yellow, blue-green, red-orange. Turning the sides of the cube allows one to set the colored squares in many different ways. The task of the player is to put it in a state where every facet is made up of squares of one color.

In addition to the traditional 6-color cube 3 × 3 × 3, there are 2 × 2 × 2, 4 × 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 × 5 cubes, cubes with images on the sides; «hybrids» made up of several cubes, options with a tetrahedron and rounded angles. Pics of these weird cubes can be found inside the post.

Over the weekend Iran attempted to assemble the world’s largest ostrich-meat sandwich at a food festival in Tehran, as part of a bid to promote healthy eating and Iran’s fledgling ostrich farming business. About 1,500 cooks used about 1,000kg (2,200lbs) of ostrich meat to make the 1,500m (4,920ft) long sandwich (BBC).

However, when the Guinness Book of Word Records officials came forward to verify the record, they found out that people had already started to eat the sandwich. The whole record virtually disappeared in a few minutes. Thus, when you feel sorry for yourself that you have to limit the number of your dinners at the restaurants, think about Iranians for a while…

While many complain about the strictness of the laws on intellectual property in the U.S., European courts have once again proved – all could have been much worse. Last reminder came from Germany in respect of the right to create thumbnails of the images. The German court has decided that it infringes the copyrights of the creators of the image.
